North Bellmore, NY, 25 April 2024 – Dashiell Chen received a scholarship in the amount of $1500 from the Lyons Aviation Foundation.
Dashiell Chen discovered his passion for aviation when he visited the Planes of Fame Air Museum at KCNO and explored the displays with his family, climbing in and out of the planes there with his brother, quickly developing an interest in one day flying. Dashiell was so interested in aviation from that point on that he even borrowed library books to read and log arrivals and also figure out basic procedures. Even after a brief stint giving ATC a try, Dashiell knew that he wanted to focus on flying, and now with his Lyons Aviation Foundation Scholarship, Dashiell will be one step closer to achieving his goals.
Since those early days of exploring his passion for aviation, Dashiell has accomplished a lot in his pursuit of becoming a pilot. He’s joined the Civil Air Patrol where he’s been able to hone his pilot skills and learn from incredibly experienced instructors, one former instructor being Alex Amir. His favorite memory was his first orientation flight, where he was finally able to see flying from a point-of-view that he’d never seen before. So far, Dashiell’s completed all of the requirements of 61.109 and has about 70 hours of flight training.
With the Lyons Aviation Foundation Scholarship, Dashiell aims to finish off his PPC training as soon as possible and also pay for some of his DPE fees. The sky’s the limit for Dashiell, who’s gone from studying planes from the ground with library books, to flying in the sky with the Civil Air Patrol, growing closer to becoming a pilot each and every day. He wants to specifically say thank you to Alex Amir, Karson Cyr, Evan Damadeo, Civil Air Patrol, and his family for all the support and helping him proceed towards his goal of becoming a pilot!

About The Lyons Aviation Foundation:
The Lyons Aviation Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non profit private foundation that exists to support and encourage the next generation of pilots and aviators through offering financial scholarships to deserving young persons who are pursuing their Private Pilot Certificate. The Lyons family has been involved in and maintained a history of aviation-related careers for over 66 years. The Lyons Aviation Foundation story started with Rolf C. Lyons, when he entered military service at the age of 17, enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1955, with his sons later following in his footsteps. This foundation was born out of a desire to give back to the aviation community and the future pilots, mechanics, and engineers working in the field by providing an opportunity to those that might not otherwise have the means to pursue aviation as a career path. This foundation is a living tribute to a family story and its ties to aviation, military service, and one another. More information can be found at www.lyonsaviation.org.
