Lamoni, IA, 25 April 2024 – Kelly Lloyd received a scholarship in the amount of $1500 from the Lyons Aviation Foundation.
For Kelly Lloyd, her passion for aviation did not take flight until this past summer. Before then, Kelly wasn’t quite sure what she wanted to do in regards to a career. She spent the summer working at her local crop dusting company from the ground, admiring the work the pilots who worked at the company completed during their low-altitude, fast-paced flights just day in and day out. One of those pilots offered to take Kelly up with them for a flight, inviting her to an entirely new view of the world that she’d never seen before, soaring around the fields of Iowa. It was then that Kelly knew the career she wanted to pursue, and now, with her scholarship from the Lyons Aviation Foundation, Kelly is one step closer to chasing that goal.
Recently, Kelly has started the first steps on her journey to becoming a pilot. She’s been taking flight lessons with the Future Flyers of Iowa and just recently completed her first solo flight, cruising around the familiar territory that she calls home. The progress is something Kelly should be proud of, and her work and determination is exactly why she’s a recipient of a scholarship with the Lyons Aviation Foundation.
With help from the scholarship, Kelly plans to continue the work she’s already begun towards earning her PPL. From there, the sky’s the limit for Kelly. While she may not be working for the crop dusting company anymore, she is still able to look to the sky in her native Iowa and see the occupation that helped her discover the career she wanted to pursue.

About The Lyons Aviation Foundation:
The Lyons Aviation Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non profit private foundation that exists to support and encourage the next generation of pilots and aviators through offering financial scholarships to deserving young persons who are pursuing their Private Pilot Certificate. The Lyons family has been involved in and maintained a history of aviation-related careers for over 66 years. The Lyons Aviation Foundation story started with Rolf C. Lyons, when he entered military service at the age of 17, enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1955, with his sons later following in his footsteps. This foundation was born out of a desire to give back to the aviation community and the future pilots, mechanics, and engineers working in the field by providing an opportunity to those that might not otherwise have the means to pursue aviation as a career path. This foundation is a living tribute to a family story and its ties to aviation, military service, and one another. More information can be found at www.lyonsaviation.org.
