Zachary Fradella
Plainview, NY. 25 April 2024 – Zach Fradella received a scholarship in the amount of $1500.
One of Zachary Fradella’s favorite memories from his childhood is when his dad would take him to the nearby JFK and LGA airports to watch the planes come in for landing. Seeing these planes up close made him wonder where all of those planes had flown in from, and this spurred his passion for aviation and dream of one day becoming a commercial pilot. Now, with his scholarship from the Lyons Aviation Foundation, Zachary will be able to further pursue his goal.
Zachary has been flying since he was 11-years-old when his parents got him a flying lesson as a birthday gift. He recalls flying out of Islip MacArthur Airport and the experience he had when ATC told him to extend their downwind because a Southwest 737 had to come in. Zachary’s memory of landing a tiny Cessna in the vicinity of a massive 737 is one that he never forgot, and not a bad experience for his first time ever flying a plane!
Since then, Zachary has further developed his passion for flying by acquiring training hours doing basic flight maneuvers. Zachary is aiming to start his official PPL training at Icarus Flight School soon, and being awarded the Lyons Aviation Foundation Scholarship will help him continue his passion and cultivate his knowledge and skill while flying around the skies that he grew up watching.

About The Lyons Aviation Foundation:
The Lyons Aviation Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non profit private foundation that exists to support and encourage the next generation of pilots and aviators through offering financial scholarships to deserving young persons who are pursuing their Private Pilot Certificate. The Lyons family has been involved in and maintained a history of aviation-related careers for over 66 years. The Lyons Aviation Foundation story started with Rolf C. Lyons, when he entered military service at the age of 17, enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1955, with his sons later following in his footsteps. This foundation was born out of a desire to give back to the aviation community and the future pilots, mechanics, and engineers working in the field by providing an opportunity to those that might not otherwise have the means to pursue aviation as a career path. This foundation is a living tribute to a family story and its ties to aviation, military service, and one another. More information can be found at www.lyonsaviation.org.
